NVIDIA Reportedly in Talks With OpenAI to Help Secure $250 Billion in Financing for AI Data Center Infrastructure
SAN FRANCISCO — NVIDIA is reportedly in discussions with OpenAI to provide a financial guarantee worth as much as $250 billion, helping the AI company secure financing for one of the largest data center infrastructure projects ever proposed. The discussions are ongoing, and no final agreement has been reached.
The reported arrangement would support a massive 10-gigawatt AI data center campus being developed in southern Ohio by SoftBank’s SB Energy. The overall project could exceed $500 billion when infrastructure and AI chips are included.

Financing One of the Largest AI Projects Ever
According to reports, NVIDIA’s guarantee would help OpenAI obtain more favourable financing terms by backing a substantial portion of the debt needed to lease computing capacity at the facility.
OpenAI, which is privately held and does not have an investment-grade credit rating, could benefit significantly from NVIDIA’s stronger balance sheet in securing funding. However, negotiations remain in the early stages and the structure of any agreement could still change or fail to materialise.
Ohio AI Infrastructure Hub
The proposed facility is expected to become one of the world’s largest AI computing hubs, delivering approximately 10 gigawatts of computing capacity.
Reports indicate the project is being developed with support from SoftBank and forms part of broader U.S.-Japan cooperation on AI infrastructure and energy investment. Operations are expected to begin around 2028 if development proceeds as planned.
NVIDIA’s Growing Infrastructure Strategy
The reported financing discussions highlight NVIDIA’s increasingly active role beyond manufacturing AI chips.
The company has been expanding its involvement in financing and supporting large-scale AI infrastructure projects as demand for advanced computing capacity continues to accelerate. Analysts view these initiatives as part of NVIDIA’s broader strategy to ensure sufficient infrastructure exists to power future generations of AI models.
Conclusion
If completed, the proposed financing arrangement would represent one of the largest infrastructure transactions in the history of artificial intelligence. While the discussions remain unconfirmed by the companies and are still subject to negotiation, the reported deal underscores the enormous capital commitments being directed toward next-generation AI data centres.
