Cryptocurrency Exchange BitMart to Shut Down Operations, Marking Second Exchange Closure in Less Than a Week

SINGAPORE — Cryptocurrency exchange BitMart has announced that it will wind down and ultimately cease all trading platform operations, becoming the second crypto exchange to announce a shutdown in less than a week after BitMEX revealed plans to close its platform.

According to an official notice published by the company, BitMart said the decision followed “a careful evaluation of the Company’s operating conditions, market environment, and future strategic direction.” The exchange described the move as an orderly wind-down designed to allow customers sufficient time to close positions and withdraw their assets.

Gradual Shutdown Process

BitMart said it has already begun suspending several services, including new user registrations, deposits, new spot orders, and new futures positions.

The exchange plans to discontinue all trading services on August 26, 2026, while the platform itself is scheduled to officially cease operations on January 31, 2027. Withdrawal services will remain available during the transition period, and users are being urged to complete identity verification, close open positions, and withdraw their assets as early as possible.

Second Exchange Closure in Days

BitMart’s announcement comes just days after BitMEX confirmed it would shut down following a strategic review by its parent company, citing broader conditions across the cryptocurrency industry.

The back-to-back announcements have renewed concerns about consolidation within the crypto exchange sector as smaller platforms face increasing competitive pressure, evolving regulations, and softer trading activity.

What It Means for Users

Customers with funds on BitMart are encouraged to monitor official platform announcements and complete withdrawals before the relevant deadlines.

Industry analysts note that while the closure of major exchanges often raises concerns among investors, the impact on the broader cryptocurrency market depends largely on each platform’s market share and trading activity.

Conclusion

BitMart has become the second cryptocurrency exchange in less than a week to announce plans to cease operations, following BitMEX’s decision to shut down. The company says the closure will be carried out gradually, giving users time to secure their assets and complete withdrawals before the platform permanently closes.
