π Ends Creator Revenue Sharing Program, Launches New Original Content Rewards Program
SAN FRANCISCO β π is ending its existing Creator Revenue Sharing Program and replacing it with a new Original Content Rewards Program, marking a major change to how creators can earn money on the platform.
X has stopped accepting new applications for the current revenue-sharing system, which will officially shut down after September 7.
Existing Revenue Sharing creators will be able to enroll in the new program once they become eligible on or after September 8.
A New Focus on Original Content
The new program is designed to reward creators who bring original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity and commentary to X.
Instead of simply rewarding engagement under the previous revenue-sharing structure, eligible creators will earn based on qualified impressions generated by their original content.
X says content such as original reporting, analysis, commentary, videos, memes, articles and other creative work can qualify when the creator’s contribution is the primary source of value.
New Eligibility Requirements
Among the requirements reported for the Original Content Rewards Program are:
- At least 500 verified followers
- At least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users during the previous 90 days
- An active X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription
- A personal or business account in good standing
- Regularly publishing original content
- Being at least 18 years old and located in a supported country
Reposts and Copied Content Face Restrictions
The new system places a stronger emphasis on originality.
Content that is copied or substantially reproduced from another creator, or downloaded and reuploaded from X or another platform without being the original creator, generally won’t qualify. Automated content, misleading content and certain monetization-focused posts are also excluded under the reported rules.
New Payment Schedule
The new program will issue creator payouts every two weeks as long as accounts and content continue to satisfy its requirements.
The first payout under the new program is scheduled for August 28, 2026, while existing Revenue Sharing creators who enroll after becoming eligible on September 8 are expected to receive their first payment on September 25.
Why It Matters
The change represents a significant shift in X’s creator-economy strategy.
Rather than primarily rewarding engagement, X is positioning its new system around the value creators add to the platform through original work. That could particularly benefit creators producing original reporting, commentary, analysis, entertainment and other forms of unique content.
For creators who have relied on X’s existing revenue-sharing system, however, the transition means they will need to meet the new requirements and enroll in the replacement program to continue earning.
Conclusion
π is retiring its Creator Revenue Sharing Program after September 7 and replacing it with the Original Content Rewards Program. Existing creators will need to enroll in the new system once eligible from September 8, with X placing significantly greater emphasis on original content and qualified impressions.
